Just like the weather outside your window, spring 2025 hair color trends are all about warmth and brightness. It’s time to shed your winter layers and emerge into the sunshine feeling optimistic and adventurous, and that feeling might just start with your hair color. And no, that doesn’t mean you have to go blonde!
“Spring is all about rebirth, coming out of the winter blues,” says celebrity colorist and R+COLOR Collective member Jenna Perry. “This is a great moment to refresh your personal brand. I’ve been feeling a return to playful fashion and beauty.” Playful is the key word here, as spring is a season for experimentation and excitement—like dreamy peachy-pinks, strawberry brunettes, and rich ruby reds. You’re getting warmer.

Copper Melt
See red with celebrity colorist and IGK Hair Care co-founder Chase Kusero’s top pick, Copper Melt. “This shade blends fiery copper with deep auburn for a rich, dimensional look that’s warm and vibrant, perfect for the transition into spring,” he says. “It’s a great choice for brunettes looking to add warmth and vibrancy to their hair.” Kusero says the shade works particularly well on medium to deep skin tones, especially those with warm undertones.
At the salon, ask for a “vibrant copper root melt that transitions into deep auburn ends” or “a warm, multi-dimensional red with a gradient effect.” If you’re a talented at-home colorist, he recommends IGK Permanent Color Kit in Copper Cola and Sunset Lover. If you prefer an all-over shade versus a melt or ombré, look to stars like Keke Palmer and Megan Thee Stallion for redhead inspo.

Brat Black
For an unexpected transformation, channel 2024’s Brat summer and copy Charli XCX’s signature deep, espresso black hair color. (Demi Moore is also a fan.) Keep it looking shiny and brilliant with regular glossing sessions; Kristin Ess’s Signature Hair Gloss in the clear Crystal Quartz is an easy at-home option.

Pink as a Neutral
“Pink is really hot right now,” says Perry. “Pink is for everyone and that’s why it’s a neutral. It’s fun!” From hot Barbie pink to cotton candy pastel to bubblegum brightness, find a pink that speaks to you and lean all the way in! If your hair is already light, apply a color-depositing mask or semi-permanent color for a pop of pink. Darker tones will need to visit the salon for a lifting session or two first.

Mushroom Blonde
Stars like Lily-Rose Depp, Taylor Swift, and Chloe Fineman have embraced this muted take on blonde that veers more dirty blonde or light brown than bright platinum. If you’ve been thinking about going back to your natural or base hair color after years of bleaching, this is a great way to start the process—and if it feels too dark come summer, you can easily add highlights to brighten things up

Ruby Red
Go for the bold with rich, luxurious true red hair color reminiscent of sparkling rubies. We previously called it “pop star red” because so many musicians were giving it a spin, and even though Dua Lipa went back to dark hair, her take on the shade still stands out as one of our faves.

Soft Strawberry Blonde
Warm up your blonde with a hint of red. “This shade has a delicate warmth that feels fresh. The mix of golden blonde and soft copper gives hair a natural, sunlit effect that pairs beautifully with spring’s lighter, breezier aesthetic,” explains Kusero. Get the look with subtle copper lowlights woven into a warm blonde base and a “balance of gold and warm red tones,” Kusero advises. To keep your color looking bright post-service, try IGK’s Color Depositing Mask in Honey Please, which Kusero says will “enhance and maintain vibrancy” between appointments.

Coquette Pastel
Channel your childhood My Little Ponies with sweet shades of lilac, baby blue, or seafoam green. Spring is the best time to try a fanciful pastel, so have fun with your color and take inspiration from candy eggs and fresh flowers!

Strawberry Brunette
To give your dark hair a springy lift without going blonde, both Giannetos and Carroza recommend the “playful, lighter red-brown” strawberry or cherry cola brunette. “The bright, vibrant red-brown tones [give] darker hair into a happy, fresh look,” Carroza explains. Giannetos says the blend “introduces a soft, warm red that feels playful and refreshing—like a bright spring garden!”
At the salon, Giannetos recommends asking for a “warm brunette base with a mix of golden copper and soft auburn tones for that subtle red glow.” A glow that looks extra gorgeous in the sunshine, no less.

Baby Blonde
If you were blonde as a kid, look to your childhood pics for hair color inspiration. Those natural highlights will be just as gorgeous on a grown-up. “Baby blonde is best for blondes looking to shed the dark winter blonde,” says Perry, who recommends asking for “heavily frosted, painted highlights” for the most lift and tons of light brightness

Peachy Rose Gold
Rose gold is back, baby! Kusero calls it “playful and modern” but still “soft and wearable,” thanks to the peachy-pink tone. If you love the look, try “warm blonde balayage or highlights, finished with a peachy rose gold gloss to create a subtle, shimmering effect,” he advises. A color-depositing mask like IGK’s Strawberry Milkshake will help you keep the peach vibes alive at home.

Mocha Mousse
Philadelphia-based colorist Chrissy Carroza calls this Pantone-approved color a “lush brunette dream,” and we agree. “It suits spring with its rich, velvety brunette tones that echo the season’s earthy renewal,” she explains. Mocha Mousse is a “warm, sophisticated pick that glows subtly in spring’s natural light.”

Butter Blonde
Butter yellow is the reigning shade of 2025 so far, both in our closets and our hair color. Jonathan Colombini, Schwarzkopf global color expert, recommends the warm, golden tone for spring, then transitioning it for summer with bright, light face-framing pieces or ends. At the salon, ask for a creamy, buttery blonde with gold undertones, similar to Lindsay Lohan’s current shade

Expensive Brunette
For a “classic, polished look” with lower maintenance, celebrity hairstylist Dimitris Giannetos recommends a brunette that looks like a million bucks. “Expensive brunette leans into glossy, healthy-looking hair with subtle highlights that mimic natural sun exposure,” he explains. It’s all about “a luxe, multi-dimensional finish” achieved with a deep, rich brunette base and soft, tonal highlights in shades of chestnut, caramel, or mocha.
