Each student’s record potentially contains all of the following information. Some of these tabs are turned on and off by flags in the student’s record (e.g. the Special Ed tabs apply only to Special Education students). Users only see those tabs for which they have view or update access permissions

Genesis is a New Jersey-based company; as such, we are vigilant in keeping the system updated with the data fields required to produce the reports mandated by the New Jersey Department of Education and the Federal government. Data for the various reports is extracted from Genesis in the format accepted by the Department of Education – either in an electronic format or in a printed report. NJ SMART
Genesis complies with all NJ SMART requirements. All data elements required by the State of New Jersey are maintained in Genesis. Data files are extracted by running the appropriate collection in Genesis. Reports are generated for each collection to determine potential data errors that could impact the uploading of data to the NJ SMART website. Genesis contains easy to use screens to troubleshoot and fix potential errors, so the data uploaded to NJ SMART is as clean as possible. SID files generated from NJ SMART are easily uploaded back into Genesis to keep your data current.
NJ Testing
Genesis provides extract routines to generate Pre-ID Labels for HSPA, GEPA, ASK, ELLS, APA, Biology EOC, Algebra I, Algebra II, and NJ PASS. Districts that use Genesis to create their pre-id labels can easily import Test Scores back into Genesis.
Registration
Pre-register your students for next year entry, register students for the current year, transfer students between district schools or out of district with Genesis. Produce the reports you need simply and quickly. Open Registration lets parents/guardians fill in all registration information online, before they come to your Registration office – and make appointments for when they will come in and formally register their students.
Scheduling
No more scheduling headaches. Some of the options you will have when using Genesis for scheduling include creating a course list, building a master class schedule, doing a study hall fill, mass assigning students to lunches, mass add/delete/replace courses, and of course create the reports you need.
Next Year Scheduling
You always have two years’ worth of scheduling available. Collect teacher recommendations for next year. Collect parent/student choices for courses online. Work through alternate scheduling scenarios for next year, whenever you want to.
Turnstile
Track student and staff comings and goings through Turnstile. Track locations for everyone who is not where they are scheduled to be. Detention, class trips, school dances, trips to the school nurse. You define the event you would like to track and let Genesis do the rest. Always know where your students and staff members are with Genesis.
Documents
Store any document in Genesis using our document storage module. Upload documents individually or in batches. Not only can you see any document pertaining to a student in Genesis, but documents can be made to be viewed in the parent module as well.
Genesis and HIB investigations can be cross linked to Conduct Incidents.
Calendar
The district calendar can be set up and maintained in Genesis. You will have the ability to overlay individual school calendars on the district calendar. Genesis allows for different start/end dates for the different schools within the district.
Student Data
All student demographic information including name, addresses, contact information, birth date, locker number, counselor name and homeroom. Special Education, ESL/LEP, and free/reduced lunch can be tracked as well.
Attendance
Genesis will facilitate taking of homeroom/daily attendance. Easily generate attendance letters and reports. The attendance module will collect, clean, and produce NJASSA reports. Create daily telephone lists and interface with auto dialers with Genesis. Allow parents to submit attendance notes online. Take virtual attendance online. Transactional Attendance captures all student entries and exits over the course of a day and calculate daily attendance. Take homeroom attendance by seating chart.
Class Attendance
Take class or period attendance. Cross post to Daily Attendance. Take virtual class attendance during the actual class. Take class attendance by seating chart via the Genesis Gradebook.
Assessments
SAT, HSPA, ASK even local assessment results can be stored, evaluated and displayed in Genesis. Create powerful, customizable views showing historic results from a multitude of sources.
Standards
The Standards module houses the sets of NJ, national and local standards. You can add your own standard sets or customize imported sets.
WebDesk
This fully and highly customizable personal dashboard screen allows teachers, counselors or administrators to create a home screen that shows the data that’s important to them. See lists of today’s appointments, students who are absent or in danger of failing.Create a short list of your favorite reports. View where students and staff are checked into Turnstile. Any data housed in Genesis can be brought to life in Web Desk. Create Conferences for students and staff members. Subscribe to GenMessage Events. Manage your Portal Pages. The Web Desk is “personalization central” for Genesis.
Payments
Genesis’ Interface with the Payment Portal allows you to collect student fees and fines online. Parents link from the Parent Portal to fully or partially pay owed amounts. Track fees and fines in Genesis Student Data. Charge fees for Athletic and other participation.
Conferences
Genesis includes a robust conference mechanism for parent/teacher conferences, counselor/student conferences, nurse conferences, staff member conferences. Parent Teacher, Guidance Counselor, and Nurse conferences can be placed on the school calendar and offered for online signup via the parent and student modules. Conferences can be individually created by staff members and shared for online signups.
Parents & Students
The parent portal allows parents to view demographic data, grades, attendance, homework assignments and conduct/discipline notes.Fill in forms. You can easily mass email parents through Genesis.
Grading
The grading module in Genesis handles the district and school wide grading policies with regard to interim reports, report cards, transcripts, and honor rolls. The grading module is designed for high schools and middle schools. Genesis also includes an elementary grading module for elementary schools. Grading allows teachers to electronically post grades. Your entire grading system will be set up, what to collect and when to collect it. A system administrator designated by your district will open the grading system to allow grade posting and then close it to end grade posting. Genesis will generate and print your interims, report cards, and transcripts. Honor rolls will be generated. Sports eligibility calculations are done by Genesis as well.
Gradebook
Genesis will allow teachers to keep an electronic grade book which can then be interfaced with the grading module to create interims and reports cards. Grade Standards and Skills along with Assignments. Cross link Assignments from the Genesis Lesson Planner.
Conduct
The conduct module allows you to create, search, and view conduct incidents. There is also a link between the daily attendance module and the conduct module so that conduct incidents are automatically generated when a student hits a certain amount of tardies or absents. HIB incidents can be easily tracked in Genesis and HIB investigations can be cross linked to Conduct Incidents.
Reunification
Genesis supports the Adam 12 National Reunification Standard for reuniting students with parents or guardians after an event or an emergency. Safely return students to the custody of parents, guardians or other designated individuals in an orderly and well managed manner.
GenMessaging
Genesis Messaging – GenMessaging – allows users to subscribe to a wide variety of possible “events” that can affect students and to automatically be informed if one of these events occurs. For example, if a student becomes unable to participate in phys ed or athletics, a new student is registered, or dozens of other events.
Staff
Keep track of all your staff data within Genesis. Demographics, job roles, qualifications, employment history, vehicle information, nurse visits and more.
Course & Portal Pages
Genesis provides webpages for teachers, counselors, coaches and principals. Title “Course Pages” for teachers and “Portal Pages” for others, these appear in the Genesis Parent and Student portals. Teacher Course Page posts can be created automatically on a weekly or daily basis in order to auto-publish Gradebook Assignments to the Parent & Student portals.
Community Service
The Genesis Student Information System includes a full function Community Service module. This allows you to specify the community service requirements for graduation, create participation categories, list programs in the categories that students can engage in to fulfill their requirements, list specific opportunities students can sign up for via the Parent/Student web access module. The Community Service module also tracks student participation and determines how and when the graduation requirements have been met. Progress towards meeting the community service graduation requirements can be tracked and analyzed.
Transcripts
The transcripts module is highly customizable. The transcripts module integrates with all of the other modules in Genesis. Student data such as attendance, test scores, grades,GPA records andactivities andawardscan be displayed.
Lesson Planner
The available Genesis Lesson Planner provides the ability to create Unit and Lesson Plans, District-wide Curriculum Maps, embedded Gradebook Assignments within lessons and later send these to the active Gradebooks, check for standards coverage. The Lesson Planner is fully and tightly integrated with the Genesis Gradebook.
Athletics
Keep track of all your athletic teams, rosters, seasons and calendars and determine Sports Eligibility with Genesis’ athletics module. Track athletic forms and physical exams. Calculate Sports Eligibility based on NJSIAA and local rules, athletic injury status, athletic forms and physical exam status. Assign coaches to teams. Provide student academic watch lists for athletic teams and team “Portal Posts” (websites).
Nurses
The Nurses module allows the nurse to check a student in, search for all visits made by a student, track all students health screening, sports physicals, and steroid release forms. Genesis also allows you to track daily medications needed for students. Produce the reports you need from the nurses office including full support for the latest NJ A45form with Genesis. Individualized Health Plans. Athletic Injury Status.
Report Writer
Genesis contains the most powerful built in report writer available today. Users can build reports against all data and tables stored within Genesis using simple to use screens. Output reports to PDF, Excel, CSV and also send the reports electronically by either email or SFTP. Report Writer reports may be distributed to all or groups of users.
Student Watch Lists
Genesis Student Academic Watch Lists lets teachers, counselors, coaches, principals and vice principals quickly identify students who may be having academic difficulties and the courses in which they may be struggling. Early warning is key to helping students – Genesis enables warnings from the entry of the very first grades of a Marking Period and a year.
