A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 7, at WheelanPressly Funeral Home, Rock Island.

Visitation will be one hour prior to service. Memorials may be made to the family. Jewel was born Oct. 12, 1948, in Clarksdale, the son of Clarence and Parilee Fillmore Colvin. He married Janet Hunt on May 31, 1977, at Mt.

Zion Baptist Church, East Moline. Jewel was employed as a welder at Sivyer Steel. He enjoyed basketball, shooting pool, being outdoors watching the birds, bike riding and being around his dog, Max. Jewel is survived by his children, Monica and Derek Colvin, both of Moline; grandchildren, Alora Walston and Colvin, both of Moline; siblings, Blanche Colvin, Rock Island, Hewell (Joyce) Colvin, Rock Island, Robert (VonCille) Colvin, Rock Island, Elaine Grossie, Peoria, and Issac (Elsie) Colvin, Chicago; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Colvin; parents; and brother, Eddie Colvin.

Monday, Dec. 7, at First Congregational Church, Moline, where he was a member. Visitation will be 1-4 p.m. Sunday at Rafferty Funeral Home, Moline, and one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be at Rock Island Memorial Park.

Memorials can be made to First Congregational Church, Moline, or Moline Kiwanis Noontime Club. David was born Feb. 16, 1938, in Davenport, the son of H.L. Roy Holst and Ruth Fowler Holst. He married Maryn Kay Hix on June 26, 1960, in Oskaloosa, Iowa.

David was a graduate of Moline High School and William Penn College. David was owner of HolstKakert Moline, with his son, Peter. David was the face of Holst-Kakert Company for 55 years. He was a member of First Congregational United Church, Moline, a member of the choir and a junior high church school teacher with his late wife, Maryn. David was the town clerk in Moline Township for many years, and a member and song leader of the Moline Noontime Kiwanis.

He served on many boards at his church and on the Outdoor Ministry Team for the Illinois Conference of the United Church of Christ. He was proud to be a Marine and was honored to be an active member of the Marine Corps League. As a young a parent, David was known to be an able assistant with just about everything his boys were into: Scouting, athletics, youth group, Young Life, Boys Choir, Ski Club and Indian Guides you name it; he was involved. He also was involved as a camp counselor at Pilgrim Park, with Teens Encountered Christ (TEC), and Cursillo. He was an excellent gardener, golf enthusiast, storyteller and someone who truly loved life, work, family, friends and his customers.

He loved them all! Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, the Rev. John and Sara Holst, Marion, grandchildren, Ashley Holst, Washington, D.C., Damon Holst, Villa Park, and Torrie Holst, Marion; son, Peter Holst, his fiancee, Felicia Craig, Moline, grandchildren, Michael Holst, Moline, and Lexie Holst, Columbia, and their mother, Christine Holst; "Sweetheart," Elizabeth Champion and her family; David's many nieces, nephews and many cousins. David loved his wonderful family at First Congregational Church, past and present. David was preceded in death by his wife, Maryn; brother Albion Holst; and his parents. EAST MOLINE John DePorter John P. DePorter, 56, of East Moline, died Wednesday, Dec. 2, 2015, at Illini Restorative Care, Silvis. Funeral services 10 a.m. Monday, Dec.

He graduated from United Township High School, Class of 1977. He married Joy O'Dell on Oct. 21, 1989, at St. Anne Catholic Church, East Moline. and together they had two daughters.

They later divorced. John had a long history as a professional painter at several Quad-Cities area contractors. He owned and operated DEPCO and World Class Painting. He most recently worked as a member of the Painters Union Local 502 with Scott Decorating. John was known as "The Godfather" of painting and had many apprentices.

He was a member of St. Anne Church. John enjoyed fishing, his Harley Davidson and listening to classical music. He was a Cubs fan and a Bears fan. He was a loyal, loving and dedicated father to his girls.

John followed in his father's footsteps, helping those in need. Survivors include his daughters, Jenna (Nichole) Kaltenbach, Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Jaclynn DePorter, Surprise, his mother, Jackie DePorter, East Moline; special friend, Stephany Ashenhurst, East Moline; siblings, MaryEllen (Wayne) Blette, East MoPeggy Roffman, East Moline, Connie (Craig) Vervaecke, East Moline, and Jim DePorter (Brenda), Moline; and many nieces and nephews. She preceded him in death on March 14, 2013. They shared more than 60 years of marriage together and had known each other for more than 75 years. Joe worked at the Cordova Nuclear Power Plant in the control room for many years. He previously had worked at a nuclear power plant in the Chicago area. Joe and Joy were charter members of St.

John Vianney Catholic Church and Joe also was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the YMCA. He had coached area summer league high school baseball for several years and was an avid golfer. He was a lifetime member of the Association of Professional Baseball Players of America.
